Open Call: Participation & Engagement Programme

Powerhouse People

At Imagineer, a central part of our mission is to harness the power of creativity to foster a vibrant, inclusive creative community in Coventry.

Starting in September, we will once again be opening up the Powerhouse as a community creation space, offering an ongoing programme of workshops led by talented local creatives and artists to provide opportunities for individuals of different ages and backgrounds to explore and develop their creativity in our amazing building.

The facilities at the Powerhouse are an ideal hub for these activities, providing a dedicated space where people can come together to share, learn, and be inspired by the arts and each other.

We are reaching out to the creative community in Cov and the West Midlands to lead the next phase of our Participation and Engagement programme, so if you have something to offer we really want to hear from you.

Disciplines – we’re really open to hosting a variety of different experiences including…

· Performance (eg. theatre, outdoor arts, comedy, dance, circus)
· Visual Arts (eg. sculpture, drawing, collage, graffiti, mosaic)
· Creative Crafts (eg. weaving, quilting, embroidery, woodwork, calligraphy)
· Creative Technology (eg. 3D-printing, digital photography, robotics, projection mapping)

Structure – over the course of a year, we’re considering different options, including…

· Weekly evening courses, running approximately to term times
· Week-long ‘intensive’ workshop
· Summer Camp projects
· Ongoing Saturday Club programme
· One-off intensive day workshops

Participants – we’re interested in targeting particular groups with different levels of experience…

· Children (under-16)
· Young adults (18-25)
· Family-inclusive workshops (adults and young people working together)
· Older people (50+ / 65+) – perhaps doing unexpected activities!
· Absolute beginners
· Experienced skill-builders
· Professional development

At this stage, we’re asking for light-touch expressions of interest. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your work, what you propose and how it might fit in with our broad structural outlines. We’re asking a few practical questions about how it might work, so we have an idea about the work and how we can properly support you. And a rough idea of costings. We’ll then follow up for more information – and this will be an ongoing process as we rotate the opportunities.

We’re planning to charge a small fee for the workshops, depending on duration and time, and some may require a materials cost. Our work will always have free-to-access bursary places for those who cannot afford to pay.

If you know the Powerhouse, you will have an idea about how our spaces would work; our facilities include a dance floor, aerial rigging, a vertical dance wall, light construction space and a craft and making room.

Initial Deadline: Mon 12 Aug 2024, 12noon
