We are really excited to welcome the superb Australian contemporary circus company Circa to the Powerhouse in March. Angus, our Creative Director, says:
“I’ve been following the work of Circa for many years now and I absolutely credit the company for changing my view of contemporary circus and what it can achieve and how to push the boundaries of the art form.
Circa’s work is always fresh, original and challenging, full of surprises and asking its audience to look at the human body in a new way. I have learned so much about circus performance from watching the company – from how to integrate different forms of music into performance to seeing them in extraordinary and unexpected settings, including cathedrals and graveyards.
Most recenly I saw their beautiful ‘Eternity’ at Hull Minster and their hilarous Duck Pond (a joyous retelling of Swan Lake) at the Southbank Centure. Hopefully, their time at the Powerhouse will be the beginning of a beautiful creative friendship with Coventry.”
We have some surprises in store when they are here, but first up, we have announced two workshops with the company – at both beginner and professional level. This is a rare opportunity to spend time with and learn from these world-class artists in a fun and friendly environment.
They are likely to be very popular, so book now!
