This summer, Imagineer and independent creative director Orit Azaz set out on another bamboo adventure, as Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere extends our creative enquiry out across the UK.
Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere will see an epic bamboo collaboration across Liverpool City Region, Bamboo Circus R&D with NoFit State, bamboo builds in the communities of Nuneaton and Bedworth, plus further projects to be announced. The programme builds on the success of the Imagine Bamboo Summit and R&D work that took place in 2022.
Imagineer and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will lead bamboo-inspired arts activities in Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral. Local residents, young climate leaders and artists will come together with engineers from Atelier One and bamboo specialists from four continents to explore bamboo as a sustainable material for the future. The project culminates in August, when six site-specific outdoor artworks, events and happenings will take place in each of the six local authority areas. The project builds on the work that took place in Liverpool in 2022, where 14 artists took part in an international bamboo creative lab and led pilot projects with communities across the city region.
Meanwhile, circus pioneers NoFit State are working with Orit, Imagineer and a host of extraordinary circus specialists on a new phase of Bamboo Circus R&D, developing structures, skills and stories towards a new outdoor touring performance.
Communities in Nuneaton and Bedworth will also join the adventure, taking part in bamboo-based arts activities as part of the Creative Explorers programme, lead by Imagineer and Artichoke with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.
All strands of the 2023 project will focus on bamboo that either does or could grow in the UK and maximise sustainability as much as possible through circular design approaches.
